This study presents the result of the investigation into the potential use of blended sunflower oil and superolein in hydraulic systems and other industrial lubricant applications. The physiochemical properties of the blended oil sample and the corresponding lubricity parameters which include density, viscosity, flash/fire point and pour point were determined by chemical experimental analysis. The result obtained was correlated with that of a mineral hydraulic fluid with a view to determining the performance efficiency as a hydraulic fluid. This study showed that the oil blend of S70:F30 was more efficient with viscosity of 37.5 mm2/s and 8.3 mm2/s at 40 °C and 100 °C, respectively, which meets the standard of the Association of Official Analytical Chemistry (AOAC) specification of 12-100 mm2/s and above 5 mm2/s for 40 °C and 100 °C, respectively. The result obtained for the peroxide and iodine values, (i.e. 2 meq/g and 82.74 mg/g, respectively), of this blend shows that oil was stable against rancidity and oxidation.
