The epileptic nature of power from the grid has necessitated industries and institutions such as Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to seek and provide alternate source of power therein called Off Grid Supply. This paper evaluates the percentage voltage supply hour from January 2015 to June 2017 of electricity consumption of grid and off-grid supply and its cost implication were evaluated analytically using Voltage Supply Hour (VSH) data for FUTA. The results from the evaluation during the studied years revealed that the electrical energy consumption during the first half of the year from the grid supply is higher than that of the second half of the year. It was also observed that the rate of power outages during the second half year is higher than that of the first half of the year for the grid supply and outages due to faults accounts for majority of the faults as against outages due to load shedding in the institution. Furthermore, the result obtained from comparing the cost when running on the grid supply and off grid supply (diesel generator) shows that off grid supply of diesel generator is at least twice the grid supply. This revalidates that the cost of operating an off- grid supply using diesel generator is costlier than utilizing the grid supply.
