This study is aimed at evaluating the combined effect of groundnut shell ash and sawdust ash (GSA/SDA) as partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement in concrete using 1:2:4 mix ratio. The ashes were obtained by the uncontrolled burning process and ground after cooling, the burnt ash was passed through a 75 microns BS sieve. Cement was replaced with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of GSA/SDA and a water-cement ratio of 0.6 was used. Concrete cubes of 100mm x 100mm x 100mm were cast and cured in water for 3, 14, 21 and 28 days respectively. The result of workability shows that as the GSA/SDA content increased the workability (slump) decreased, but setting times and soundness of GSA/SDA-cement paste increases as the GSA/SDA content increases. However, the compressive strength of GSD/SDA-concrete increases as the curing age increases, and it also increases as the GSD/SDA content increases up to 10% at 28 days then decreases. Finally, it can be concluded that SDA is suitable material for use as a pozzolan since it satisfied the requirement for such a material by having a combined (SiO2+ Al2O3 + Fe2O3) of more than 70%, which was classified as a class C pozzolana, while GSA is a low reactive pozzolan and the optimum percentage of the GSA/SDA to be used should not be more than 10% replacement.
